Joof
was born in Pretoria, South Africa on May 21, 1948. During his childhood
he dreamt of hunting the wide-open spaces of Africa and owning a part
of it, so it's not surprising that every spare moment of his youth
was spent in the bush, hunting and exploring. He educated himself
in the art of bush craft and hunting, as none of his family members
were outdoorsmen. During this period of learning, at the tender age
of 12, he shot a Leopard with only his black Zulu hunting buddy of
the same age at his side. This was perhaps a preview of his life to
come.
After finishing high school, he studied briefly at the Medical Faculty
of Pretoria, but decided that his future did not lie in medicine,
as his family had hoped. He successfully completed his training in
Construction Management at the University of the Witwatersrand and
started his career in the building industry, where he knew he could
make his fortune and fulfill his lifelong dream of a career in trophy
hunting and the tourism industry and also to own his own piece of
Africa. He realized very early that this dream could not come true
while being employed by others, so he started his own construction
company at the age of 25, after relocating to Namibia.
Four years later he met his wife-to-be, Marina, and they decided to
sell the construction business and assets to begin their career in
the safari industry. In 1979, Joof qualified as a Professional Hunter,
but after a 3-year partnership in Omaruru Safaris he decided to go
it alone and Hunters Namibia Safaris was established. During this
period Joof also decided that a sporting goods store would compliment
his safari activities and the very successful business, "The
Gun Shop - Windhoek", was established. As well as selling brand
name hunting rifles, his highly qualified, imported German master-gunsmiths
turned out some of the finest custom made rifles for clients who enjoyed
the finer things in life. Soon afterwards they purchased the prized
property Rooikraal Game Ranch. Through years of hard work and dedication
to the wildlife, the environment and the local community they developed
the land into one of Southern Africa's most beautiful and game rich
areas.
Today
the Lamprecht's safari operation, Hunters Namibia Safaris, has a well-established
international reputation as Namibia's premier outfitter. Joof and
Marina continue to personally run the operation with the same passion
and flair. In 2002, at the age of 23, their oldest son Joof Jr., joined
them as Professional Hunter and business partner after completing
his Hotel Management training and qualifying as Professional Hunter
in South Africa and Namibia.
Joof,
Sr. has hunted extensively in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Angola,
Mozambique as well as Namibia. He is a member of the Namibian Professional
Hunting Association where he also acts as the Namibian hunting industry's
joint Ombudsman. His memberships also include: International Professional
Hunters Association, Safari Club International and the French Association
Chasseurs Professional. Marina has served for many years on the Executive
Committee of the Namibia Professional Hunting Association where she
spearheaded initiatives such as the education of previously disadvantaged
Namibians in the hunting industry. This was aimed at training Hunting
Assistants and Hunting Guides. She also, in collaboration with S.C.
I., imported and distributed S.C.I. wheelchairs to underprivileged,
handicapped Namibians.
Joof is one of the most serious and ethical Professional Hunters around.
He firmly believes in the laws of fair chase, respect for the game
and nature and therefore hunts only on foot. He selects only completely
mature, record book trophies for his clients. He enjoys the social
aspect of the hunt as well and, over the years, has developed many
treasured friendships with his clients. He is passionate about sharing
his love and expertise of wildlife, the environment and hunting with
clients, and his favorite challenge is introducing first time African
trophy hunters to the ways of the wild of this magical continent.
He considers himself extremely blessed to have had the opportunity
to have made his hobby his profession.
Joof
and Marina continue to maintain the highest standard of service, cuisine
and facilities, as well as a renowned safari operation on prime African
hunting lands. Thanks to their dedication to quality and proper game
management, Hunters Namibia Safaris is acknowledged to be one of the
very best such operations in all of Africa.
The
Lamprecht family's dedication to the wildlife, environment, the local
community and their country is evident in every aspect of Hunters
Namibia Safaris. The family is involved with the SCI Safari Wheels
project (distribution of wheelchairs), the Namibian Professional Hunting
Association, the Hunters Namibia Private School, and is personally
involved in interaction with the Namibian government on every level.
For example, Marina Lamprecht was chosen by the NCCI (The Namibian
Chamber of Commence and Industry), as one of three speakers from the
private sector, to pay tribute to the retiring President of the Republic
of Namibia, His Excellency Dr. Sam Nujoma, at a dinner in his honor
held in Windhoek on the 18th February 2005.
